Since 1996, Maia (she/her) has been a devotee of Raqs Sharqi (bellydance). She began to perform in 1998 and to teach in 2000.
She currently teaches Raqs Sharqi in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Her emphasis is on Vintage Egyptian styling but the technique is applicable to any style of bellydance.
Side-effects may include: lip-synching in languages you don't know; increased attraction to anything sparkly; appreciation for your wonderful body, especially your hips; steering-wheel drumming; shimmying while doing the dishes; new insights into other cultures; and the ability to pat head and rub tummy at the same time.
